Anatomy of Bones

Photograph of a pair of the author's tap shoes.

     The toe bone
(a) Toe Tap - usually gives a brighter, more treble-like sound (Teletone taps, no jingle taps!)
is connected to the heel bone
(b) Heel Tap - usually gives a harder, more bass-like sound
is connected to the rubber bone
(c) Rubber Sole - a layer of tough, textured rubber to keep the dancer from slipping around
is connected to the sole(soul) bone
(d) Leather Sole - a strong leather sole is the basis for a quality tap dancer's shoe
